What Is Reiki Healing?

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an Energy Practice

Reiki is one system of working with energy to encourage peace, balance and healing. Reiki is one of many energy-work systems. An acupuncturist uses needles to encourage energy to flow through a series of meridians or energy channels that run the length of your body. Shiatsu uses finger pressure on acupuncture points for similar purposes. Tai Chi and Qigong are systems of movement exercises, designed to cultivate your personal reserves of energy. All of this to say, energy work is a global practice with many varieties of ways to access and maneuver the energy of a person and their surrounding environment.

The intention with energy techniques is that if you harmonize your energy system, your body is in
the best position to heal itself on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Harmonizing
your energy applies to both your body and the energy surrounding you. So what is Reiki? Reiki is a method of channeling and manipulating energy for balance, peace, and healthy flow. This in turn leads to peace of mind, heart and body. Energetic balance can greatly enhance mental, emotional, spiritual and physical healing.

If you’d like to experience distance Reiki sessions to experience this energy for yourself – I offer free distance Reiki sessions with a variety of intentions on my YouTube channel.

Although Reiki is currently most well know as a healing practice, it did not start out that way. The founder of Reiki sought a path to enlightenment, and what he found was of tremendous benefit to the world.

The History of Reiki

Reiki is an energy work practice founded by Mikao Usui (1865–1926) in the early 1920s. This system of energy work is now over 100 years old. Usui was an avid traveler and student. He spent his early years studying medicine, Buddhism, and martial arts. Usui contemplated his gathered wisdom and developed a method of meditation and working with energy. Mikao Usui was seeking spiritual enlightenment and after a powerful meditation experience, created an energy system he initially called Method to Achieve Personal Perfection. As his practice evolved, Usui discovered that the energy could be shared, and it was an amazing way to assist other people. He taught his method to many students who have refined and expanded this energy system world-wide.

Reiki as a Healing Practice

So, what is Reiki healing? The intention with Reiki is that if you harmonize your energy system, your body is in the best position to heal itself on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Harmonizing energy applies to both your body and the energy surrounding you. This means that you can channel Reiki energy not only for your own peace and healing, but you can influence your external environment as well. A practitioner can channel Reiki to cleanse, strengthen and enhance their environment, food. spiritual tools, crystals, and basically anything around them. Reiki can also be channeled to other people.

A Reiki practitioner can channel Universal and Earth energies through their bodies to the recipient of the energy. This healing energy can be channeled in person, over a great distance, and through time. It’s an amazingly flexible practice. Reiki can be sent to a single person, or to an entire community.

While one should still work with health care professionals for all healing work, Reiki is a powerful complement to scientific healing methods.
