The Science of Shungite
Shungite is a non-crystalline, high carbon mineral containing anywhere from 30% to 90% carbon depending on its quality. The fullerenes (hollow, spherical carbon molecules) whithin Shungite make this a very lightweight stone. It has a powerful ability to filter and purify water.
Historical Significance of Shungite
Shungite was discovered in Karelia, Russia. While some reports indicate Nikolay Ozereckovskiy started seeing specimen as early at 1792, it was only formally recognized and named in the 1890s. It was named specifically due to its location in Shunga, Karelia.
Metaphysical Attributes of Shungite
Shungite is believed to clear stagnant energy and dissolve energetic blocks in both bodies and spaces. One of its unique properties is its deep filtering and purifying abilities. It is highly affective at filtering water and is just as useful in filtering our energetic being. This filtering effect encourages the release of habitual beliefs as well as deeply rooted feelings such as doubt, shame, and guilt, allowing for greater emotional balance and growth.

Shungite Mantra Practice
Sit in seated meditation, holding the Shungite in your less dominant hand to receive its energy. Really feel the support of the cushion or floor beneath you. You are grounded and supported by the Earth’s energies. Imagine a strong breeze flowing by you. Repeat these words. “I am ready to relase all energy that is no longer supporting me.” Alternately, hold a Shungite mala and chant this mantra 108 times.
