Carnelian is a stone I grew up with, so it really brings me back to my childhood. My family would walk along the Oregon Coast with buckets and we’d collect interesting looking stones that had been uncovered by the waves.  We would bring the stones home and put them in the tumbler to polish.  Many of the specimen we collected were Carnelian.  Such a beautiful and rich stone. The Science of Carnelian

Carnelian is a member of the Chalcedony family. You may hear it referred to as Carnelian Agate, and that is correct as well, agate is a subset of the chalcedony family.  It is orange or orange/pink in color and is semi-transparent, so if you hold a piece up to the light, you’ll be able to see the light shine through it.

Historical Significance of Carnelian

Carnelian has a very long history and was used frequently as a protective stone by the Egyptians and to receive boosts of energy and vitality. This gemstone is said to help someone overcome the fear of death which may have come from the Egyptians using Carnelian in tombs as protection in the afterlife.

Energy, energy, energy!  Carnelian spiritual properties are primarily associated with increasing energy, vitality and passion.  Even though it is associated with the Sacral Chakra, which is of the Water element, this gemstone tends to “fire things up.” Like when you place a pot of water over a fire, it produces steam.  If you want things to get “steamy” in your life, keep some Carnelian in your bedroom.

Carnelian doesn’t just inspire passion and vitality in the bedroom, but is also a great source of creative inspiration.  It is known as the Artist’s Stone.  Carnelian sharpens the analytical mind and awakens creativity, so one is able to take n idea from “vision” all the way though to fruition and creation.  This gemstone is perfect for overcoming Writer’s Block. I continue this series with a stone that is near to my soul – my birthstone.  As a February baby, I’ve always felt a special connection with the stone I came into life associated with.  It is the strongest stone associated with Pisces. The royal purple is my favorite color, and when I’m seeking something soothing and comforting, I will reach for Amethyst. The Science of Amethyst

Amethyst is part of the Quartz family.  The purple coloring comes from small amounts of iron in the crystal, and the depth of color can range from very dark purple to a light lavender. There are various types of Amethyst, such as, Chevron, Rutiliated & Ametrine (Amethyst and Citrine combined).

Historical Significance of Amethyst

Amethyst has quite a long-standing association with alcohol.  The name for Amethyst come from the Greek word “Amethyein,” which means “not drunk.”  In ancient cultures, nobility would place the stone in their wine to try to avoid intoxication.  It is also associate with the deity, Bacchus, the god of wine.  The goddess Diana once protected a maiden named Amethyst from the rage and desires of Bacchus by turning her into a gemstone. Hence, Amethyst is often associated with recovering from addictions.  Carrying an Amethyst on the body can help to ward of cravings.  During deep cravings one might want to sit and meditate with a large Amethyst to help one release the feelings of attachment to alcohol.

Science of Llanite

Lllanite is a stone comprised of multiple minerals. It is primarily a Rhyolite with spots of pink Feldspar and blue Quartz. Although it is formally known as Llanite, it is also sold under the trade names of Que Sera stone and Vulcanite. It is a scarce stone and it is difficult to find online, so if you find some while you are rock shopping – consider buying some to add to your collection.

Llanite spiritual properties are focused on our connect and interactions with others. It stimulates the Heart chakra and enables us to open our hearts to others.
