Red Jasper is another stone that I grew up with. It was plentiful on the Oregon Coast. During our frequent weekend camping trips on the coast, my family would gather buckets of stones from the shore, bring them home, and polish them. Red Jasper made up a large majority. The Science of Red Jasper

Jasper is part of the Chalcedony family, which is then a part of the Quartz family. Jasper is a common stone that comes in many varieties (yellow, green, banded, mookaite, orbicular, and many, many more!). There is a Jasper color for every Chakra!

Historical Significance of Red Jasper

The name Jasper comes from the Greek word for “spotted stone.” There is a beautiful natural occurrence of Jasper in Venezuela called Jasper Falls. It is a waterfall that flows over an enormous bed of Red Jasper and is such a stunning sight!

Red Jasper spiritual properties are associated with both the Root and Sacral Chakra. Its Sacral Chakra vibrations help to boost energy, passion and endurance. If your love life has felt stagnant , routine, or non-existent, Red Jasper will help arouse desire and creativity to add an extra spark to resurrect and revitalize your sex life. This crystal is one massively protective bodyguard! Even tiny bits will provide quite a strong shield against attack and negativity. This is one crystal I recommend for everyone’s Gemstone Toolkit. The Science of Black Tourmaline

Tourmaline itself can be found in every color of the spectrum! The black variety is called Schorl and is the most readily available of all the Tourmalines. Unlike the other Tourmalines, Black is not transparent – it is a strong, solid black. It can be available tumbled and smooth, or as long, striated crystals (as pictured above).

Historical Significance of Black Tourmaline

Black Tourmaline was discovered in Germany in the 1400s and was named Schorl meaning “false ore”. Its protective qualities have made this a well-used stone in many Ancient magicians’ ritual work. Highly polished pieces were used for scrying and divination. It was used as a talisman by many to ward off curses and the “evil eye.”

This is one of my very favorite new stones.  I learned about it in 2010 and have absolutely adored it ever since.  Purple is my favorite color and this stone has multiple shades! This stone plays with swirls of color, flash and black.  Each piece is different and emits a wonderfully uplifting energy. The Science of Charoite

Charoite comes from only one location, Murun Mountain in Yakutia, Russia. It is a very distinct looking stone with swirls of varying shades of purple and occasionally touched with black. There is sometimes some “flash” or chatoyancy in the stone. It is unmistakable and quite beautiful.

Historical Significance of Charoite

This is a fairly recently discovered stone.  It was initially discovered on the 1940s, but didn’t come to market until the late 1970s.  It has only really become popular as a jeweler’s gem within the last ten years. Geologist’s fear that the exclusivity of its mining location, combined with its new popularity, may soon diminish the supply.

Charoite is most helpful during times of massive change. It helps us to stop, look at a situation as it is, and accept the present moment just as it is. “It is the soul stone that overcomes fear.” It helps us to release overwhelming fear, reduce stress, and enter into a relaxed state.  Often when we are under great stress, we move, move, fix, fix, to try to get rid of the stress, and our actions in this state can aggravate the situation. Hematite has been associated most often with the blood. “The name hematite is from the Greek word ‘haimatitis’ which means ‘blood-red.'” That seems strange, right?
