Amethyst – (Third Eye Chakra) – (Zodiac of Pisces)

I continue this series with a stone that is near to my soul – my birthstone.  As a February baby, I’ve always felt a special connection with the stone I came into life associated with.  It is the strongest stone associated with Pisces. The royal purple is my favorite color, and when I’m seeking something soothing and comforting, I will reach for Amethyst. The Science of Amethyst

Amethyst is part of the Quartz family.  The purple coloring comes from small amounts of iron in the crystal, and the depth of color can range from very dark purple to a light lavender. There are various types of Amethyst, such as, Chevron, Rutiliated & Ametrine (Amethyst and Citrine combined).

Historical Significance of Amethyst

Amethyst has quite a long-standing association with alcohol.  The name for Amethyst come from the Greek word “Amethyein,” which means “not drunk.”  In ancient cultures, nobility would place the stone in their wine to try to avoid intoxication.  It is also associate with the deity, Bacchus, the god of wine.  The goddess Diana once protected a maiden named Amethyst from the rage and desires of Bacchus by turning her into a gemstone. Hence, Amethyst is often associated with recovering from addictions.  Carrying an Amethyst on the body can help to ward of cravings.  During deep cravings one might want to sit and meditate with a large Amethyst to help one release the feelings of attachment to alcohol.

The Third Eye Chakra is the seat of Amethyst spiritual properties. Amethyst’s realm is the Mind/Universal energy connection. This gem is said to transmute lower energies to higher frequencies.  It is well know to help deepen ones meditative experience, open up to greater intuition, increase psychic abilities, and ward off nightmares.  Amethyst is a naturally balancing stone. It balances the physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual energies. If you are feeling off-balance, Amethyst is a perfect gem to seek, as it “draws energy within for self-healing and self-illumination.”

Sit in seated meditation, holding the Amethyst in your less dominant hand to receive its energy.  Really feel the support of the cushion or floor beneath you. You are grounded and supported by the Earth’s energies. Place your attention on the center of your forehead, the Third Eye Chakra, and repeat these words. “I am protected as I open to Higher Wisdom”. Alternately, hold an Amethyst mala and chant this mantra 108 times.

Purple Aventurine is one of the many colors available in the Aventurine family. Green Aventurine is the most well known for Heart Healing, and Blue Aventurine helps to transform negative thinking. Purple Aventurine specializes in healing issues of the Soul and Spirit. It is a deeply wise and spiritual gemstone and will support you when your Faith is rocked. The Science of Purple Aventurine

Aventurine is a quartz with mica inclusions that provide the color and some sparkle. Depending on the type of inclusion, this stone can come in many different colors: blue, peach, yellow and more.  The inclusions that give this Aventurine its purple color is Lepidolite, so it may look like a shinier, lighter version of Lepidolite. Strawberry Quartz and Purple Aventurine also look very similar so it can be difficult to tell them apart, but Aventurine should have either some sparkle, or streaks of white mica visible to the eye.

In Ancient Greece, the stone was sewn into the clothes of warriors to inspire courage.  In shamanic cultures, this stone was used in medicine wheel rituals to connect with the loving energy of the spirit guides and gods.

All members of the Aventurine family help us heal some aspect of ourself and can clear and balance our energetic field. Aventurine is excellent for ALL types of energy balancing. Additionally, Aventurine diffuses negative energy and situations and turns it positive.  This is an excellent stone for healers in general, such a nurses, doctors, Reiki healers, and all those in a healing profession.  Not only does it help to balance and heal illness in the patients, but it also helps to protect the healer and keep him/her in balance as well.

Purple Aventurine is a powerful healer of the Spirit. It is especially useful if you are having a crisis of Faith. Lepidolite is one of the lesser known gemstones, but it is oh so useful and practical! It is a lovely pink, purple and white sparkly gem. I keep one nearby at all times, because it is so supportive in every day life situations. Whenever life is particularly stressful, I carry a big piece around in my pocket and use it often as a worry stone. This is one of my very favorite new stones.  I learned about it in 2010 and have absolutely adored it ever since.  Purple is my favorite color and this stone has multiple shades! This stone plays with swirls of color, flash and black.  Each piece is different and emits a wonderfully uplifting energy. The Science of Charoite

Charoite comes from only one location, Murun Mountain in Yakutia, Russia. It is a very distinct looking stone with swirls of varying shades of purple and occasionally touched with black. There is sometimes some “flash” or chatoyancy in the stone. It is unmistakable and quite beautiful.

Historical Significance of Charoite

This is a fairly recently discovered stone.  It was initially discovered on the 1940s, but didn’t come to market until the late 1970s.  It has only really become popular as a jeweler’s gem within the last ten years. Geologist’s fear that the exclusivity of its mining location, combined with its new popularity, may soon diminish the supply.

Charoite is most helpful during times of massive change. It helps us to stop, look at a situation as it is, and accept the present moment just as it is. “It is the soul stone that overcomes fear.” It helps us to release overwhelming fear, reduce stress, and enter into a relaxed state.  Often when we are under great stress, we move, move, fix, fix, to try to get rid of the stress, and our actions in this state can aggravate the situation. The Charoite spiritual properties helps us to stop, look at our stressors rationally, and come to acceptance.  Only then can we make wise decisions about how to move forward.
