For this latest blog post we’re digging into a fairly newly discovered stone! K2 Stone (also known as Ketonite) was found less than a decade ago in the foothills at the base of the K2 mountain. K2, or Mount Godwin Austen, is the second-highest mountain in the world and is home to it’s very own special and unique gemstone.  It’s a fairly remote and harsh location, so there isn’t a huge production of stones in the market. The Science of K2 Stone

I was just stunned when I first saw this stone.  It just doesn’t seem real and looks dyed, but I assure you it is not.  The blue spots are Azurite.  The blue Azurite really “pops” against the white and black granite. Some specimen even have very small dots of Malachite as well. Often called “K2 Jasper,” it’s not a Jasper at all – it is a granite.

Historical Significance of K2 Stone

There isn’t much history to the stone itself, since it was just discovered, but Azurite has a lengthy history as a sacred stone. The Native Americans used it to assist contact with one’s Spirit Guides.  Mayans also used Azurite to manifest psychic abilities, mystical powers, and telepathy.

Metaphysical Attributes of K2 Azurite Stone

K2 Stone works extremely well with the Third Eye Chakra.  It bridges the gap between Crown and Throat Chakra and is intensified in the middle at the Third Eye. This stone is primarily known for its intense ability to awaken psychic and intuitive abilities.   K2 Azurite helps us open up to receive Universal wisdom.  It assists with out of body journeying and accessing Akashic records.  It is also used as an effective meditation aid, helping to clear cluttering thoughts and tune into quiet stillness and insight.

The K2 Azurite Stone spiritual properties help us to connect with our spirit guides and angels. If you are seeking assistance, guidance, or support from the Divine, K2 will help solidify that connection and allow you to absorb the messages.

Remember, its base stone, Granite, is a very solid and grounding stone.  Although the white color links to the Crown Chakra, the blacks inclusions and Granite help to root us to the Earth.  This is extremely important because this stone not only helps to dramatically open one up to the Divine, but it also keeps us stable and prevents us to floating away aimlessly.  K2 Stone helps to dissolve barriers to our spiritual progress while allowing us to incorporate our practices in daily life.

I’ve always been fascinated with Howlite, and I seem to always have some nearby. Maybe it is the calming, soothing nature of Howlite that has a natural ability to relieve stress and anxiety. I consider Howlite to be the “underdog” of the gemstone healing world. It’s not all that popular, doesn’t have alot written about it, but it is a tremendously useful and practical stone to wear on a daily basis!

The Science of Howlite

Howlite is often confused with Magnesite because they look very similar, so make sure you are actually purchasing Howlite rather than Magnesite. It can also be dyed to look like Turquoise, so make sure the Turquoise you are purchasing is natural, and not dyed Howlite or Magnesite.

Historical Significance of Howlite

Henry How, from Nova Scotia, discovered this stone in 1868. It was named after him. This stone is found primarily in Nova Scotia, Canada, but there are also mines in California, Nevada, and Turkey.

Definitely calming and soothing. Quickly cools and reduces extreme emotions like anxiety, panic attacks and rage. Wearing Howlite also absorbs and anger directed at you! The Science of Moonstone

Moonstone is an orthoclase gem that has phenomenal flash.  The orthoclase is layered with feldspar, and the refraction of light between those layers is what causes the shimmery glow (called adularescence).  Moonstone is available in a variety of colors: off-white, beige, peach, grey, blue and rainbow.

Historical Significance of Moonstone

Originally called selenitis because it was associated with the Greek moon goddess, Selene. It also had the name adularia due to its discovery near Mt. Adular in Switzerland.  In Arab countries it was used for fertility and to ensure large families. In Hindu belief, the moonstone was solidified pieces of actual moon beams.  It was a birth stone for those born on Moon’s Day (Monday). It has long been associated with magic and rituals that depended on the phases of the moon.

Physically, moonstone is reflective, and spiritually it also allows us to reflect on our opportunities and intuitive wisdom. It allows us to think before we react.  This stone helps us to recognize new beginnings. Moonstone is a powerful gemstone to calm the emotions. It helps to reduce overreactions and emotional triggers. By far, I have more Selenite in my home that any other gem, crystal or mineral. It is such a wonderful, overall purifying and protective stone and is easy to find in many forms.  Selenite comes in large chunks and wands, but can also be easily carved into statues, candle holders, eggs, and charging plates. If you’re a serious crystal worker, I would recommend having a good collection of Selenite on hand. Selenite is a variety of Gypsum that forms into long, slender crystals.  It is quite delicate and fragile.  You should never clean Selenite with anything but water – no detergents, chemicals or salts – these will dissolve Selenite and cause it to fall apart.

Historical Significance of Selenite

Selenite was named from the Greek word Greek selēnitēs, which means stone of the moon. Its gentle, soothing white color gives the appearance of a glowing moon at night.  I will explain more about Selenite’s storage ability in a later paragraph, but I will insert here that it is said Selenite was utilized heavily during the period of witch trials.  Many magic users were being killed, and the fate of the lineage was of great concern. Magic users would project their knowledge into the crystal to save for future generations, with the intention that when the stone was obtained by the right person, at the right time, that person could access the information in the stone.

Selenite is the ultimate crystal for clearing, purifying and bringing positivity into one’s environment and soul. It powerfully exudes Universal light and energy into an entire space which creates a protective barrier around your home and prevents spiritual or energetic attachments. This is a crystal that you should store with other stones if they are in need of clearing.  It is especially useful with other delicate stones that cannot be washed in water.  If you place the delicate stone with a piece of Selenite in the moonlight, you can easily purify these extra fragile crystals and gems.

The Selenite spiritual properties bring a degree of clarity and expansion that is unmatched in the crystal world. Selenite can help you tune into your soul’s message.  Meditating with Selenite can open up the Crown and tie you into the deepest mysteries of the Universe. Selenite can “cut through unconscious assumptions” and bring understanding to any situation. It cuts to the root.  One cannot be self-deluded if working regularly with Selenite.

Finally, Selenite is known as the Memory Stone. People often use Selenite during past life regressions as it retains the memory of the past. This crystal is said to “hold the imprint of all that has happened in the world.” Even more, Selenite is said to contain the knowledge of the future, as our “future selves” have also been imprinted on the stone.  Meditation and intention with Selenite can help you discover the outcome if you proceed on your current path.
