Strawberry Quartz – (Heart Chakra) – (Zodiac of Aries)

One of the gemstones that I hold very dear is Strawberry Quartz. It has an energy unlike any other. It is a sister stone to Rose Quartz and also heals Heart Chakra issues, but Strawberry Quartz is much lighter, uplifting and joyous! Whenever I feel the need to embrace more joy and celebration into my life, I sit with my Strawberry Quartz gemstone. The Science of Strawberry Quartz

There are two varieties of pink quartz – Rose Quartz and Strawberry Quartz, but how are they different, and how to tell them apart? Rose Quartz is a light shade of pink and is more translucent. It is colored pink because of inclusions of a pink variety of Dumortierite. Strawberry Quartz is a much darker shade of pink, more opaque, and gets its color from iron oxide inclusions.

**NOTE** This should not be confused with “Cherry Quartz” which is actually a man-made glass product.

Strawberry Quartz is primarily a Stone of Joy. It enables us to see the happy, beautiful and pleasant aspects of Life. It increases optimism and positive thinking. If your daily life is feeling stagnant and dull, then this stone helps you recognize the simple pleasures that used to make you happy. The Science of Fire Quartz

Quartz includes a very large family of gems. In fact, it is the most common mineral on Earth! For this reason it has been called “the Grandfather of all Gems.” Although this article is about the Clear variety, quartz also includes Amethyst, Citrine, Rose, Smoky, Snow, Agate, Chalcedony, Aventurine, and many, many more. Quartz is used in watches and radios because it can produce electromagnetic energy when under physical pressure (piezoelectricity). Fire Quartz specifically is also known as Hematoid Quartz. The red “flames” within the Clear Quartz are streaks of Hematite. Hematite is actually a red stone, but it is so deep that it looks black to the eye.

Historical Significance of Fire Quartz

Quartz is said to be named after the Slavic word for ‘hard’, but also the Greek word for ‘ice’. Clear Quartz is also known as Rock Crystal. Quartz has been revered for ages. Crystal balls were used for scrying and divination. Japanese cultures considered Quartz a symbol for purity. Native American cultures believed that Quartz housed sentient spirits and would provide them with offerings.

Quartz is well known for being able to amplify, store, and direct the flow of energy. The amplification aspect is extremely useful. It can amplify our intentions, so using Clear Quartz during intention setting rituals, moon phase ceremonies, and while creating vision boards will give extra power for those intentions to grow and manifest. Clear Quartz spiritual properties can be combined with other gemstones to amplify their effects. If you really need “extra” of what a crystal provides, pair it with Quartz for an additional boost.

Quartz is an amazing cleanser for our energy, aura, chakras, and physical body. It helps to raise our personal vibration and dissolve blockages that are creating imbalances. This stone inherently knows what we need to be Whole and works to correct the source of illness. The amplification property works especially well for healers as it can boost the effective of the treatment. I use Clear Quartz whenever I am working with Reiki clients to enhance the power of the Reiki energy.

Clear Quartz is a gemstone that amplifies our energy, intentions, and intuitive abilities. Combined with the streaks of Hematite that creates the flame effect, Fire Quartz helps us remain clear and focused while we perform meditation and energy work. Clear Quartz is said to help with the healing process in general, so if you are ill, or recovering from an injury or surgery, carrying Quartz with you will enhance the healing process. Fire Quartz itself is very invigorating so helps with combating fatigue and stimulating the metabolism.

Smoky Quartz Spiritual Properties: Stone of Stability

Smoky Quartz – (Root Chakra) – (Zodiac of Capricorn & Sagittarius)

This is a gemstone I use if I’m having trouble focusing during meditation. It is mildly grounding, but also uplifting, so it helps me release thought and just be. I find it very soothing to hold and tend to meditate with it when my mood is dark and I feel like releasing those heavy feelings. The Science of Smoky Quartz

Smoky Quartz is a sibling to Citrine, Amethyst, and the rest of the Quartz family. This is a dark, but translucent, gemstone, so it has many of the properties of Onyx or Obsidian, but much gentler. The smoky color is caused, not by another mineral as is common, but by gamma rays. Smoky quartz can range from very light grey to fairly dark (as in the picture above).

Historical Significance of Smoky Quartz

This stone was used often as a talisman, and the belief was that the stone would turn darker in the presence of danger. Smoky Quartz was also a stone used for mourning and times of grieving.

Metaphysical Attributes of Smoky Quartz

Smoky Quartz is one of the black stones that are always known for grounding and balancing the Root Chakra. This quartz has a much gentler effect than the pure black stones, so if you are in need of finding your center without feeling weighed down, this is a an excellent choice. Smoky Quartz provides grounding, centering, and a sense of stability. It is excellent for use in meditation is you are finding it hard to focus. It enables you to clear your mind easier, provide that connection to the Earth, while still allowing you to open up to Higher Awareness.

This gemstone is like a gentle, but firm security blanket. It helps to reduce fear, stress, anxiety and depression. Smoky Quartz supports us through all of the difficult emotions. It is a wonderful stone for mourning and grieving. It keeps us grounded as we process our emotions about the loss. This stone also helps to release fear of failure.

Finally, Smoky Quartz is amazing at transmuting negativity into positivity. It allows you to leave behind anything that no longer serves you. If you’re feeling down, frustrated, or spend alot of time in a toxic environment, this gemstone will help to protect you from negative influences and shine a light of hope for you.

Citrine is part of the Quartz family. It gets the yellow color from iron in the stone. The name comes from the Latin word Citrus, in relations to the color of lemons. It is one of the few yellow colored stones – Topaz being another.

It helps us not be so reactive to criticism, because we already know our own worth. This stone helps us to discover and enforce our own personal boundaries. Rose Quartz has long been associated with Love.  It was supposedly imbued with the warm, pink color by Eros, God of Love, to inspire love and attraction between people.

Metaphysical Attributes of Rose Quartz

This stone is by far the strongest Heart Healer in the crystal world.  The rose quartz spiritual properties are immediate, powerful and can tackle even the earliest traumas. Rose quartz is a stone to wear on you if you are working through break-ups and divorce, when you need some relief from heart break.  It also helps us to work toward forgiveness. It increases love and compassion for all, so if someone has harmed you and you have been having trouble letting go, this stone will encourage healing and forgiveness.

As mentioned, rose quartz can assist with healing childhood traumas and broken relationships.  If you grew up in a home that didn’t foster love and you feel inhibited now – this stone can help release those barriers around the heart.  Take care with using rose quartz as it will initiate the processing of old wounds and cause a release of the pain and suffering you’ve been holding onto.  Don’t hold back!  Releasing the pain and emotion helps you learn from it and let it go. Be prepared to have a support system available when doing deep meditations and healing with rose quartz. Have a friend standing by, or your favorite blanket and soothing music to help ease you back into the world after an emotional release.

Rose quartz is an amazing crystal to encourage self-compassion.  We are often very hard on ourselves; self-critical, unloving, unforgiving, and blaming.  Holding rose quartz, closing your eyes, and breathing deeply will allow our critical feelings about ourselves to soften and release. You are beautiful, you are loving, you are perfect just as you are.  This is the love letter from rose quartz to our souls.

Physical Healing Benefits of Rose Quartz

Rose quartz helps us to forgive and love; therefore, inviting peace, soothing and tranquility into our lives.  This helps to reduce stress and tension.  Rose quartz is also said to protect against radiation and improve circulation (which makes this a wonderful crystal during a detox). Finally, rose quartz is also associated with sexuality and desire, so is often used as a stone to promote fertility.  Surrounding your bed with large rose quartz crystals, placing tumbles stones in your pillow case, and wearing rose quartz rings during sex are some suggestions to increase your openness to conception.

Sit in a seated meditation position, holding the Rose Quartz in your less dominant hand to receive its energy.  Really feel the support of the cushion or floor beneath you. You are grounded and supported by the Earth’s energies. Place your attention on your Heart area, imagine a beautiful flower blooming open at your heart, and repeat these words.  “I feel safe to open my heart and accept love that is offered” Alternately, hold a Rose Quartz mala and chant this mantra 108 times.

For a more traditional, Buddhist chanting practice with rose quartz, try a session with “Om Mani Padme Hum.” This is the mantra of the Compassion Buddha and inspires compassion to ourselves and every living being.
