This is a Jasper I recently tumbled and fell absolutely in love with it! This is a Jasper that is spotted like a Leopard and comes in so many gorgeous colors. In the batch I tumbled there were deep reds, dark pinks, mustard yellow, browns and tans. It is so lovely and soothing to hold! Science of Leopardskin Jasper

Leopardskin Jasper is part of the Orbicular Jasper family. These are Jasper with spots or “orbs” in them. Other examples are Ocean/Sea Jasper, Asteroid Jasper, and Poppy Jasper. This type of Jasper can be found in abundance in Chihuahua, Mexico, but is also mined in Brazil and Africa as well. The stone will look different depending on which mine it comes from. It looks very much like Poppy Jasper, but has much more muted color shades, rather than Poppy Jasper’s bright reds and pinks.

Topaz is one of the harder gemstones at Mohs hardness 8, so it wears really well in rings because it is durable. It comes in many color (and even clear), but yellow-gold is the most common. Take care when buying blue or pink topaz, because blue is almost always heat-treated and pink is very rare, so is often color treated.

Today Topaz is primarily mined in Brazil (and found in my home state of Texas), but in the 1800s it was mined heavily in Germany. The name is derived from the Indian word tapas meaning ‘fire’, and from the Arabic word topazos – ‘found’. It has been used throughout history, and all over the world. The royal crown of England is covered in topazes, and many cultures considered it a stone of great wisdom.

It was more expensive and difficult to obtain when I first learned of it, but I’m very glad that it has become much easier and affordable to purchase. The Science of Mookaite

This is a stone that is formed exclusively in Australia. It is often grouped in the Jasper family, but it is not a Jasper. It is a porcellanite. It comes in a mix of red, yellow, white and grey. The colors are formed due to the iron oxide/hydroxide in the soil where it is collected.

This is a rather new addition to the gemstone market. It started appearing in about 2010 and has become quite popular since then. It is names after Mooka Station, in Western Australia, where it was originally discovered.

It is highly sought after, so expect to pay a little more for Rhodochrosite jewelry than other more available stones. The Science of Rhodochrosite

This gemstone is a manganese carbonate. The mineral siderite gives it the pink color. Much like Malachite, Rhodochrosite is created one layer at a time. In Argentina, the Rhodocrhosite formed as stalactites in the abandoned Incan silver mines. The balance of components in the stone determine the shade of pink in each layer. Even more rare specimen can be very gemmy and translucent making it faceted gemstone quality. These will be highly expensive. It has only been considered a popular stone for jewelry since about 1940. before, this was found in silver mines and discarded.

The name comes from the Greek word ‘rhodochrosis’ meaning – pink colored. This gemstone is found in the United States as well, and the Native Americans used to use this stone as a symbol of love. The Incan culture used to call this stone the “Inca Rose.”

This crystal is by far the one I use the most. It combines powerfully with every other stones and is a magnificent amplifier for Reiki healing. Whenever I send out distance Reiki, I add Clear Quartz to my Reiki name box to enhance the effects. I also add one bead of Clear Quartz to all of my healing gemstone bracelets to boost the effects of the primary stone. I have multiple pieces (tumbled, rough, wands, etc.) and some is always within reach! Quartz includes a very large family of gems. In fact, it is the most common mineral on Earth!
