Amazonite Spiritual Properties: Stone of Soothing & Harmony

Amazonite – (Heart & Throat Chakra) – (Zodiac of Virgo)

Amazonite is a really gorgeous stone with such a beautiful color. The sea-green contributes to its soothing and comforting nature. The only other gemstones with a similar color are Aquamarine and Turquoise, but Amazonite is the most reasonably priced of the three. The appearance of the stone itself varies based on its mine location. Some samples are soft, smooth, and even shimmery (like the stone on the right in the picture above). Other variations of Amazonite are a deeper blue-green with very noticeable, white albite stripes in it (like the stone of the left). The Science of Amazonite

This gemstone is a microcline feldspar and its blue-geen color comes from trace amounts of lead in the microcline. Some samples of Amazonite display the Schiller effect with is a shimmery, iridescent flash in the light.

Historical Significance of Amazonite

This stone was formally discovered in Brazil the late 1700s by Alexander von Humboldt. This gemstone adorned the tribes people of the Amazon jungle region and was therefore named Amazonite. It has been been used around the world for at least 4000 years. It was very popular in Ancient Egypt. Part of the Egyptian Book of the Dead was scribed on Amazonite, and the gemstone was also found among the treasures of Tutankhamen’s tomb.

Amazonite is a stone of peace and helps create harmony within and externally in our relationships. It encourages balance in all aspects of our life. It dispels frustration and irritation, and calms a frantic mind. Unakite is one of my favorite stones because I love the color combination of green and pink. The mossy green and warm pink provide me with a sense of comfort from the Earth. As it includes both colors of the Heart Chakra, it is a wonderful, but gentle, heart opening stone. This stone is a combination of Feldspar (pink), Epidote (green) and Quartz (white). It is an accessible stone with a really reasonable price range, but not all that commonly used in crystal practices.

The Science of Rhodonite

Rhodonite, like Rhodochrosite, is a manganese mineral which causes the pink color in both gemstones. The black streaks in the gemstone are inclusions of manganese oxide.

Aventurine was one of the very first stones I started working with when I started jewelry making.  It’s a beautiful green, and stones are readily available and affordable. There is something warm, nurturing and natural about this particular shade of green and it reminds me of being outside taking walks in the park. Aventurine is a quartz with mica inclusions that provide the color and some sparkle. Depending on the type of inclusion, this stone can come in many different colors: blue, peach, yellow and more.  The inclusions that give Aventurine the green color are mostly fuchsite. Green is the most common color (and all the different colors have different metaphysical qualities, so I’ll post about them individually).  If a stone is labeled “Green Quartz” or “Blue Quartz” – it is likely Aventurine.

In Ancient Greece, the stone was sewn into the clothes of warriors to inspire courage.  In shamanic cultures, this stone was used in medicine wheel rituals to connect with the loving energy of the spirit guides and gods.

This is one of the best healers in the gemstone family.  It is especially effective at Heart healing. It can be used with any illness or imbalance.  The Green Aventurine spiritual properties instills a sense of calm and well-being.  In the Heart healing realm, it shields and protects the wearer from energetic attachments – particularly heart related.  If you are receiving unwanted attention, or recovering from a breakup and the person is still clinging, this gem will protect you from psychic and energetic invasions.

Malachite is found wherever copper is mined. It is formed when the lime in the water interacts with the copper and slowly creates this beautiful green stone one layer at a time.  (Azurite is also formed with copper this way and hence why Azurite-Malachite stones exist)

Malachite is one of the oldest power stones.  Ancient Egyptians used Malachite often in amulets and in headdresses believing that it would help them think clearly and rule wisely.  The Egyptian Book of the Dead mentions green stones raining from the heavens, so they used Malachite to connect with the energies of Heaven. The Egyptians also ground it up to use as a cosmetic, paint, and dye.

Rose quartz, like Amethyst, is another member of the quartz family.  It gets the lovely pink color from microscopic rutile-iron mixed in the quartz.

Rose Quartz has long been associated with Love.  It was supposedly imbued with the warm, pink color by Eros, God of Love, to inspire love and attraction between people.

This stone is by far the strongest Heart Healer in the crystal world.  The rose quartz spiritual properties are immediate, powerful and can tackle even the earliest traumas. Rose quartz is a stone to wear on you if you are working through break-ups and divorce, when you need some relief from heart break.  It also helps us to work toward forgiveness. It increases love and compassion for all, so if someone has harmed you and you have been having trouble letting go, this stone will encourage healing and forgiveness.

As mentioned, rose quartz can assist with healing childhood traumas and broken relationships.  If you grew up in a home that didn’t foster love and you feel inhibited now – this stone can help release those barriers around the heart.  Take care with using rose quartz as it will initiate the processing of old wounds and cause a release of the pain and suffering you’ve been holding onto.  Don’t hold back!  Releasing the pain and emotion helps you learn from it and let it go. Be prepared to have a support system available when doing deep meditations and healing with rose quartz. Have a friend standing by, or your favorite blanket and soothing music to help ease you back into the world after an emotional release.

Rose quartz is an amazing crystal to encourage self-compassion.  We are often very hard on ourselves; self-critical, unloving, unforgiving, and blaming.  Holding rose quartz, closing your eyes, and breathing deeply will allow our critical feelings about ourselves to soften and release. You are beautiful, you are loving, you are perfect just as you are.  This is the love letter from rose quartz to our souls.

Physical Healing Benefits of Rose Quartz

Rose quartz helps us to forgive and love; therefore, inviting peace, soothing and tranquility into our lives.  This helps to reduce stress and tension.  Rose quartz is also said to protect against radiation and improve circulation (which makes this a wonderful crystal during a detox). Finally, rose quartz is also associated with sexuality and desire, so is often used as a stone to promote fertility.  Surrounding your bed with large rose quartz crystals, placing tumbles stones in your pillow case, and wearing rose quartz rings during sex are some suggestions to increase your openness to conception.

Rose Quartz Mantra Practice

Sit in a seated meditation position, holding the Rose Quartz in your less dominant hand to receive its energy.  Really feel the support of the cushion or floor beneath you. You are grounded and supported by the Earth’s energies. Place your attention on your Heart area, imagine a beautiful flower blooming open at your heart, and repeat these words.  “I feel safe to open my heart and accept love that is offered” Alternately, hold a Rose Quartz mala and chant this mantra 108 times.

For a more traditional, Buddhist chanting practice with rose quartz, try a session with “Om Mani Padme Hum.” This is the mantra of the Compassion Buddha and inspires compassion to ourselves and every living being.
