Rhodonite, like Rhodochrosite, is a manganese mineral which causes the pink color in both gemstones. The black streaks in the gemstone are inclusions of manganese oxide.

Blue Lace Agate is part of the Chalcedony family and is comprised of layers of blue and white agate. It is quite beautiful, but one of the less available stones on the market. This crystal is by far the one I use the most. It combines powerfully with every other stones and is a magnificent amplifier for Reiki healing. Quartz includes a very large family of gems. In fact, it is the most common mineral on Earth! For this reason it has been called “the Grandfather of all Gems.” Although this article is about the Clear variety, quartz also includes Amethyst, Citrine, Rose, Smoky, Snow, Agate, Chalcedony, Aventurine, and many, many more. Quartz is used in watches and radios because it can produce electromagnetic energy when under physical pressure (piezoelectricity).

Quartz is said to be named after the Slavic word for ‘hard’, but also the Greek word for ‘ice’. Clear Quartz is also known as Rock Crystal. Clear Quartz has been revered for ages. Native American cultures believed that Quartz housed sentient spirits and would provide them with offerings. Finally, this crystal records the energy it comes in contact with and it can be released or “read” at a later time. It helps to form a conduit to our past lives to help with karmic and soul healing as it holds a memory of “all that was.” This gemstone can be charged with an energy or intention to be used later on. Tourmaline itself can be found in every color of the spectrum! The black variety is called Schorl and is the most readily available of all the Tourmalines. Howlite is often confused with Magnesite because they look very similar, so make sure you are actually purchasing Howlite rather than Magnesite. It can also be dyed to look like Turquoise, so make sure the Turquoise you are purchasing is natural, and not dyed Howlite or Magnesite.

Citrine is part of the Quartz family. It gets the yellow color from iron in the stone. The name comes from the Latin word Citrus, in relations to the color of lemons. It is one of the few yellow colored stones – Topaz being another.

Aventurine was one of the very first stones I started working with when I started jewelry making.  It’s a beautiful green, and stones are readily available and affordable. There is something warm, nurturing and natural about this particular shade of green and it reminds me of being outside taking walks in the park. The Science of Green Aventurine

Aventurine is a quartz with mica inclusions that provide the color and some sparkle. Depending on the type of inclusion, this stone can come in many different colors: blue, peach, yellow and more.  The inclusions that give Aventurine the green color are mostly fuchsite. Green is the most common color (and all the different colors have different metaphysical qualities, so I’ll post about them individually).  If a stone is labeled “Green Quartz” or “Blue Quartz” – it is likely Aventurine.

Historical Significance of Green Aventurine

In Ancient Greece, the stone was sewn into the clothes of warriors to inspire courage.  In shamanic cultures, this stone was used in medicine wheel rituals to connect with the loving energy of the spirit guides and gods.

This is one of the best healers in the gemstone family.  It is especially effective at Heart healing. It can be used with any illness or imbalance.  The Green Aventurine spiritual properties instills a sense of calm and well-being.  In the Heart healing realm, it shields and protects the wearer from energetic attachments – particularly heart related.  If you are receiving unwanted attention, or recovering from a breakup and the person is still clinging, this gem will protect you from psychic and energetic invasions.
