Agate is an ancient stone and has been revered for thousands of years. If receive its name from the Greek philosopher Theophrastus in 3 or 4 BC because it was discovered by the Achates River. Agate was highly prized for its wide variety of colors and patterns, and was cut and carved into amulets and talisman for protection. It has been worn by prophets and priests in Islamic, Babylonian, Egyptian and Greek cultures, and was considered a sacred stone for worship.

Super Seven is also known as Melody Stone or Amethyst Cacoxenite. This gemstones is mined in Espirito do Santos, Brazil. It gets it’s name because specimen can contain a combination of up to 7 different minerals! These can include Amethyst, Cacoxenite, Goethite, Clear Quartz, Lepidocrocite, Rutile & Smokey Quartz. This easiest way to identify Super Seven is to look for the “needles” of Cacoxenite with the purple Amethyst within the stone. It is very similar to Auralite-23 but has fewer mineral inclusions within the Amethyst and is mined in a different location.

Aventurine is a quartz with mica inclusions that provide the color and some sparkle. Depending on the type of inclusion, this stone can come in many different colors: blue, peach, yellow and more.  The inclusions that give this Aventurine its blue color is Dumortierite, so Blue Aventurine is often sold AS Dumortierite, but it is a combination of quartz, mica and trace Dumortierite. Blue Quartz and Blue Aventurine look very similar so it can be difficult to tell them apart, but Aventurine should have either some sparkle, or streaks of white mica visible to the eye.

Science of Dalmatian Stone

Dalmatian Stone is most commonly called Dalmatian Jasper, but it is not a Jasper at all! This rock is a mixture of Feldspar (light parts) and Arfvedsonite (black parts). At Mohs 6, it is also softer than Jasper (Mohs 7). This stone is readily available and very affordable. It is often sold in a variety of colors, but just know (because of its softer and more porous nature) that all those various colors are DYED. There are no natural blue, pink or green Dalmatian stones.

Dalmatian Stone was discovered in Chihuahua, Mexico, and derived its name because the miners thought it resembled the spots on a Dalmatian dog. It has historically been used as a protection stone in necklaces, talisman and amulets.

Stichtite is a gorgeous pink / lilac colored stone that was discovered in Tasmania, Australia. It can be found elsewhere in the world, but is primarily mined in Dundas, Australia. It is also found in deposits with Serpentine, and the combined specimen are known as “Atlantisite” (aka Stichtite in Serpentine). It was named after Robert Sticht, the director of a mining corporation at the time of discovery.

Tektite is an fascinating glass formation that results from meteor impacts and is has an amazing energy when held. A tektite is formed when a meteor strikes the Earth and melts with the elements at the location. Each location’s tektite is unique due to the minerals and plant matter that was in the Earth at the time of the impact. Most Tektites are black or dark brown in appearance, but there are green (Moldative) and golden (Libyan) varieties as well. Rough Tektite is distinctive in appearance as it is mottled and contains internal bubbles. Tektite is general is readily available and affordable (except for Moldavite and Libyan tektites).
