This fairly rare gemstone is actually a combination of Quartz, Lazulite and Scorzalite. The amount of these elements in any given specimen will determine the variance of white, sky blue, or dark blue in each sample. It was initially found in the Vastana mine, near Nasum, Skane, Sweden, but can now be found in Rwanda, Australia and Virginia.

Aventurine is a quartz with mica inclusions that provide the color and some sparkle. Depending on the type of inclusion, this stone can come in many different colors: blue, peach, yellow and more.  The inclusions that give this Aventurine its purple color is Lepidolite, so it may look like a shinier, lighter version of Lepidolite. There are two varieties of pink quartz – Rose Quartz and Strawberry Quartz, but how are they different, and how to tell them apart? Rose Quartz is a light shade of pink and is more translucent. It is colored pink because of inclusions of a pink variety of Dumortierite. Strawberry Quartz is a much darker shade of pink, more opaque, and gets its color from iron oxide inclusions.

The Science of Fire Quartz

Quartz includes a very large family of gems. In fact, it is the most common mineral on Earth! For this reason it has been called “the Grandfather of all Gems.” Although this article is about the Clear variety, quartz also includes Amethyst, Citrine, Rose, Smoky, Snow, Agate, Chalcedony, Aventurine, and many, many more. Quartz is used in watches and radios because it can produce electromagnetic energy when under physical pressure (piezoelectricity). Fire Quartz specifically is also known as Hematoid Quartz. The Science of Girasol Quartz

Quartz includes a very large family of gems and Girasol is only one variety in this family. In fact, it is the most common mineral on Earth! For this reason it has been called “the Grandfather of all Gems.” Although this article is about the Clear variety, quartz also includes Amethyst, Citrine, Rose, Smoky, Snow, Agate, Chalcedony, Aventurine, and many, many more. Quartz is said to be named after the Slavic word for ‘hard’, but also the Greek word for ‘ice’. Clear Quartz is also known as Rock Crystal. Clear Quartz has been revered for ages. Crystal balls were used for scrying and divination. Japanese cultures considered Quartz a symbol for purity. Girasol Quartz, specifically, is named from the Italian word girasole, meaning “to turn towards the sun”. This name evokes the image of the light side of the moon as it faces the light of the sun.

Girasol Quartz connects us deeply with our karmic and past-life issues, especially regarding how these affect our present life. This is a Jasper I recently tumbled and fell absolutely in love with it! This is a Jasper that is spotted like a Leopard and comes in so many gorgeous colors. In the batch I tumbled there were deep reds, dark pinks, mustard yellow, browns and tans. It is so lovely and soothing to hold! Science of Leopardskin Jasper

Leopardskin Jasper is part of the Orbicular Jasper family. These are Jasper with spots or “orbs” in them. Other examples are Ocean/Sea Jasper, Asteroid Jasper, and Poppy Jasper. This type of Jasper can be found in abundance in Chihuahua, Mexico, but is also mined in Brazil and Africa as well. The stone will look different depending on which mine it comes from. It looks very much like Poppy Jasper, but has much more muted color shades, rather than Poppy Jasper’s bright reds and pinks.
